Causticised Lignite is proprietary tannin based product used for controls rheology and reduces fluid loss, extends temperature limits, emulsifies oil, reduces flocculation and stabilizes water base drilling fluid. It is readily soluble over a wide range of temperature and is effective in low concentration without requiring the use of caustic soda. In solution it has an alkaline pH therefore it does not require large caustic additions to maintain a stable pH, Causticised Lignite is a partially soluble additive that provides thin, low-permeability filter cakes accompanied and in dispersed systems as a synergistic additive with lignosulphonates. It can be used in virtually any water base fluid.
| Physical appearance | Black powder |
| Specific gravity | 1.6 – 1.8 |
| Bulk density | 833 kg/m3 |
Causticised Lignite may be used for reology and filtration control in all water base muds and for helping maintain a constant pH. It is especially effective at stabilizing the properties of muds exposed to high temperatures and contaminations such as calcium. Causticised Lignite does not require additional treatment with caustic soda.
Normal treatment of Causticised Lignite range from 1 to 10 lb/bbl. In high salinity systems. It is preferable to premix to the active systems. Causticised Lignite is most effective in mud system with an alkaline pH in the range of 9 to 10.5.
